The Scarecrow seems to look very life like. It imitates the scene of an abandoned wheat field, and an old, forgotten scarecrow. If you look at the detailing closely, you can see that Wyeth has put in much detail. The field has many long pieces of grass, that stick up and seem to wave in many directions. If you look also at the hills, you can see burgundy on the hill and parts of the field. Many people say it looks like blood.
This picture can be described as 'a clearly haunting scene'.
"HOW DOES THIS PIECE OF ART WORK MAKE YOU FEEL?"
Think back and try to remember how many times you have been asked this question.
A few?
The Scarecrow shows a desolate landscape, with dark clouds, and what used to be a scarecrow. Now there is nothing left of the scarecrow, but the metal stake and the stick tied to it.
Some people think that the old scarecrow marks a burial ground for dead soldiers who died at war.
When you look at The Scarecrow the first thing that comes to mind is different than what somebody else would think.
Everybody has a different view of art, and everybody has different tastes.
In The Scarecrow, there are hills, an old scarecrow (which looks like a cross), and a dark sky. All of this contributes to what looks like a very haunting scene. The cross really contributes to the scene, because it makes the entire picture look like a haunting scene where a war may have been fought.
Over all, I really enjoyed looking and writing about this painting by Andrew Wyeth.
His paintings always hold some sort of a haunting that could bring chills if you encountered the scene in a real life situation.
