Optical Toys

Earlier today my CyberARTS teacher gave me a link to follow. I followed the link and it brought me to a site showing different types of optical toys.  The website seemed at first a bit bland. Not much design, just a white backround.
When you first click on the link (http://courses.ncssm.edu/gallery/collections/toys/opticaltoys.htm)
You will see twelve icons. Two are moving, and the other icons are pictures of a box, or weird bowls or a lens. If you click on any one of the icons, you will be brought to a page where the picture on the icon will be explained.

My favourite optical toy is the Phenakistoscope.
The Phenakistoscope is my favourite because of how it works. The scope works by using the principle of motion to create an illusion of motion.
My favourite is an image of dancers waltzing around the dance floor. It really looks like the image is moving, and it is very hard to see where the images stops to repeat.

Logo

For my logo assignment, I chose to use a wolf. I used a wolf, because wolves can work by themselves, or with a pack, or group. I called my design company,"Lone Wolf Designs" because I usually work alone. I enjoy working with groups, and, like a wolf, I am a diligent worker. Yet a wolf can often get distracted.I chose to make this logo with the name "Lone Wolf Designs",and have a wolf, because I love wolves, and I find I resemble a wolf in more ways than one.

Graphic Designs Link

http://stonewaycreative./com

This  picture shows  graphic design in the colour coming out of the pipe.
The colour appears to be paint or chalk, but really the artist - who is unknown - took a picture of the pipe and wall, then scanned it into their computer to graphically add the colour to the image.

The design link below the photo is the link to the photo's original site, where it came from.
On that site there is a contact number, so if you wish to contact the artist, you may.

Repetition and Rhythm

Repetition in photography is one of the greatest tools used to make a picture look amazing, and truly makes it worth a thousand words.

In example of repetition and rhythm, There are two pictures below that show both repitition very strongly.

In the first photo, a large military group sits in a rectangular formation, and the photographer angled the picture at one corner of the group, almost straight across to the opposite corner, giving it a slight diamond-shapped appearance. The angle of the photo and the number of people in matching uniforms makes it a very interesting and eye-catching picture, as well as one with a great representation of repetition.

In the second photo, there is a picture of a large group of tiles, reflecting blue, red, black, and white. Though the image in the different tiles vary due to the shape of the tiles, the repeating tiles heading into the distance as well as the complimentary colours and proffessional angle of the picture make this yet another eye-catching photograph, and another great representation of repetition.

Humor in Photography

Humor is used in photos almost all the time. Humor in photography is also used in many different ways.
In example of two types of humor, 'snickering' humor and 'dirty humor.'
In both of these pictures, the theme is that of a dog either on a pillow with people using them, or with dogs trick or treating.

In the first photo, the two people took a pillow and placed it in front of their faces. When somebody else told them that the pillows were in line with their shoulders, the photographer took the photo.
This photo has much humor in it, because the photo gives the impression that the two humans actually have a dog's head.

In the second photo, the one with the five dogs trick or treating, catches your eye, and forces you to look carefully at it. These dogs must have been either very well trained, or very patient...because the dogs seem to be very calm and natural looking. Like they have done it hundreds of times.
This photo has humor in it, because on Halloween you would expect to see children dressed as dogs and ghosts, not dogs dressed as ghosts.

For my Chess Piece assignment I will talk about the movement in this piece. To begin, the chess piece seems to be almost invisible. The parts that seem to catch your eyes, and move them around the page, would be the wave to the right of the chess piece, and possibly the zig-zags behind it.  The three shaded circles that are near the bottom left of the picture, create movement because of the three different shading styles. (Light, medium, and dark.)
The chess piece also leans to the right of the paper very slightly.
If you look at the actual outline on the chess piece, you will find you may not be able to see it well. That is because the darkness of the lines  behind and around the chess piece take away from the outline of it, and leaves a faint line and shadow.

The Scarecrow - Andrew Wyeth

For my first CyberArt assignment, I was asked to write about a piece of art I found interesting. Some people think a piece of art should show realism, imitationalism, formalism, or any of the three. I have chosen The Scarecrow, By Andrew Wyeth.

The Scarecrow seems to look very life like. It imitates the scene of an abandoned wheat field, and an old, forgotten scarecrow. If you look at the detailing closely, you can see that Wyeth has put in much detail. The field has many long pieces of grass, that stick up and seem to wave in many directions. If you look also at the hills, you can see burgundy on the hill and parts of the field. Many people say it looks like blood.
This picture can be described as 'a clearly haunting scene'.

"HOW DOES THIS PIECE OF ART WORK MAKE YOU FEEL?"
Think back and try to remember how many times you have been asked this question.
A few?
The Scarecrow shows a desolate landscape, with dark clouds, and what used to be a scarecrow. Now there is nothing left of the scarecrow, but the metal stake and the stick tied to it.
Some people think that the old scarecrow marks a burial ground for dead soldiers who died at war.

When you look at The Scarecrow the first thing that comes to mind is different than what somebody else would think.
Everybody has a different view of art, and everybody has different tastes.
In The Scarecrow, there are hills, an old scarecrow (which looks like a cross), and a dark sky. All of this contributes to what looks like a very haunting scene. The cross really contributes to the scene, because it makes the entire picture look like a haunting scene where a war may have been fought.

Over all, I really enjoyed looking and writing about this painting by Andrew Wyeth.
His paintings always hold some sort of a haunting that could bring chills if you encountered the scene in a real life situation.
